Fun fact: Reagan administration’s policies and rhetoric promoted an ideology that shifted the perception of the causes of homelessness away from structural issues like affordable housing shortages and structural racism, but instead blaming mental health issues and drag addiction pushing the rhetoric towards individual choices or failures. It’s not changed since. The only difference is the new narrative, “housing is unaffordable because you choose to defend immigrants instead of deporting them”.
