A 50-year-old crock pot still going strong…meanwhile my smart coffee maker needs therapy every time the Wi-Fi blinks.

    3. Those old crockpots are nearly indestructible. Bonus points if the crock is removable for cleaning!

Planned obsolescence became a thing. Too many electronics that are designed to fail and cheaper to replace than repair. I hope this crock pot gives you another 40 years of service

    5. Bonus as the old ones will actually hold food warm for long periods of time without burning/drying out the food

    6. it doesn’t even have wifi?? How is it going to get firmware updates? How will it run ads???

Clearly not from the same batch that caused the fire in the Pearson house.

I was recently using and appreciating the salad spinner we got as a wedding present in 1988: some plastic things were also built well in the “way back”!

    8. They actually crock at the right temps (lower) unlike new ones that come from a litigious society when it comes to food handling, so they will burn food on them and get crusty.

But how do you manage without wifi? Need to get a new one that won’t work without a subscription.

      Hey, billionaires gotta eat too.

    10. I have one that’s similar but in burnt orange. My mom got it way back in the 70’s, dog chewed the cord, so she bought a different one. Said I could have her old one so took it apart and replace the cord. It’s a love/hate I’ve developed for the thing, makes meals easy but a PITA to wash cuz it don’t come apart.

    11. Quick Google says a crockpot in 1974 cost around $25. In 2025 dollars thats $164. Target has one for sale this size for $19.99. People are welcome to buy a $100+ crock pot today that will last longer. But they’ll pick the cheap one then complain why it doesnt last. Thats why I always invest in quality appliances. My 10 year old toaster was $150, and people thought I was crazy for buying it. But I’m guessing it’ll last a lot longer then the cheaper ones!

Back when companies prided themselves on quality. I swear things are made to break now just to get consumers to buy another

Lead, lead lead, lead, so much lead in my fooooooodd! Seriously though that’s a lot of lead.

    14. My late grandmother had hers up until the day she passed and my aunt has it now. Still works! Given proper care, that thing will probably continue to cook meals for another few decades.

My parents have one of these, and a hand mixer from the 70s in avocado green.

I remember we were at a museum ranch showing like everyday life and one of the displays had a yellow and white bowl. I thought “Why is that here? We have that exact bowl at home.”

We used ours yesterday from 1968. It was free, it’s clean, and it works great. So why would you replace it?
