I’ve recently taken the Coastal Starlight. The observation deck was the highlight of my trip.
I recommend taking it if you haven’t already. Yes, it can be more expensive than flying and takes more time. Look at it as an experience. It’s a low stress form of transportation with gorgeous sights.

I did a cross country on Amtrak. PA to WA. I was on my way back home from a bike tour. It was neat, but very long and extremely expensive. The trains show their age, but those observation decks are great for daydreaming.
