    1. Imagine the desperation of the people choosing religious extremists over an US-backed regime

Imperial Persia/Iran had a cool lion on their flag. I don’t even fucking understand what the emblem on the current Iranian flag is supposed to represent.

It’s always been Iran since Sassanid,  maybe even before, I seem to recall it being used in Achaemenid era as well. Persia is exonym though the language itself is called farsi by its speaker.

Iran has been the name for a very very long time.

It had pretty much never been persia. The 1920s incident was reza shah getting the rest of the world to call it the native name.

Persia was never and i quote, Never used by iranians to refer to the realm.

And in the Persian language Iran genuinely sounds so much better than Persia.

Edit : and no even before sassanids it wasn’t persia.

Persia or Persis or native Pars is only the province of southern iran.

The achemenids called their state “ Xschwa” meaning “ The kingdom” or “ THE empire”

Although the name “ Aryanam” was used to refer to the borders of modern iran and afghanistan.

In parthian ( western middle iranian language) it became “ Aryan”

And in middle Persian it became Eran. 224 ~654

And then in New persian Iran. 821 ~ todat

    5. Apparently Persia’s historical location is not common knowledge. My sister thought Persia was in Africa. So I started to ask some people around me where Persia was. Half of the people understood it was in the middle east but I also heard people respond that Persia was in modern day Spain or northern Europe.
