      After aspartame aka NutraSweet was approved for use in soft drinks in 1983, most brands used a mix of aspartame and saccharin until consumers got used to the new taste and the idea of yet another chemical sweetener: Pepsi switched over to 100% aspartame shortly before Coke did, so there was only a brief window when this ad was true.
