8,000 year old prehistoric obsidian mirrors found in the ruins of the Neolithic settlement known as Çatalhöyük, Turkey, and were made c. 6400 BCE. These are the oldest manufactured mirrors in the world; the convex carving suggest they were also used to light up dark spaces during the day [1042×1562]

That’s odd reasoning for the convexity; I would have assumed that the manufacturing process (lapping) would be assumed to be responsible and that flatter surfaces would have been more desired.
