The Station fire is something I think everyone should watch just to see how insanely quick a fire can spread. You’ll never not take fire seriously after watching this.

As part of my job, I have to take a course every 3 years on “Crowd Management” which is mostly going over the fire code and the reasons why those codes exist. The Station Nightclub fire is one of the tragedies highlighted each time.
The Station Nightclub fire was one of the dumbest tragedies in US history. First, to have any pyro technics in that small space was dumb (not to mention the improper materials!). Second, there was an unmarked exit on the far side of the bar area that almost no one used because they didn’t know it existed, and in an emergency people tend to try to go out the way they came in. Next, a moron security guard was told the back door was for the band only, and he actually stopped people from going out the door once the fire had started. Those factors all contributed to the pile up at the main entry door which is where the vast majority of those who died were lost.
It ended with more than $176 million in damage settlements/verdicts and one of the owners of the club and the manager of the band spending time in prison.

His name is Joe Kinan and he was horribly burned in the 2003 Station nightclub fire, which killed his girlfriend Karla and 99 other people.
