I’m assuming OP was referring to all the “Aurora” sightings from last few years in the US where people were saying. “OH look how bright the aurora was last night. You could really only see it with my phone…”
I was convinced to go look outside in the middle of the night multiple times to look at what just looked like white light pollution from a nearby town.
The aurora This last week here in Minnesota have been the best I’ve seen since the mid 90s.

I didn’t understand the title. For it to be called an Aurora event you need to be able to see it with the naked eye.
