It’s one thing to dislike it for “not being your thing” (I get it). But expecting realism in anime is really dumb

    1. Lol, like anyone watches anime for realism. 🤣 Bring on the giant robots and magic, that’s the real deal!

    2. Disagree, but that’s cause it depends on what the story is trying to do.

If it’s just a dumb fun Mecha show, hell yeah it’s that.

If a story sells itself as a realistic military story with mechs, then it’s something else.

It’s why I tried “Obsolete”… And promptly dropped it because it didn’t understand how tanks worked despite trying to call itself “realistic”.

Meanwhile, Muv Luv as a visual novel and anime actually manages to get more moments of realism other “realistic” Mecha anime fail at. It’s not full realistic, mind you, but it is one of the only military anime I’ve seen that understands the concept of combined arms. Sorta… More than most.

And of course, Patlabor, but that goes without saying.

Anything like code gease that glosses over the mecha’s specs bore me to tears. However I loved Full Metal Panic!

    4. In all my years as an anime watcher I have never once seen or heard about someone complaining about mecha anime being unrealistic, so no idea what you’re on about.

Also, imagine thinking SoL anime are the only realistic ones.

    5. And then you start watching Super Robot anime and who gives a fuck about realism?

If your drill isn’t the drill that will pierce the heavens, then what’s even the point?
