    1. I’ve cut way, way back out of spite over pricing. Used to eat out once a week, now it’s once a month.

    2. Their prices have gone up a lot, their quality has gone down, and people are being squeezed from every direction from rent, transportation, electricity, groceries, healthcare, and clothing, and there is widespread anxiety about the economy and job market.

That’s exactly the conditions that cause people to think about every purchase, and getting expensive low quality fast food is suddenly a luxury instead of an impulse/convenience purchase.

    3. The White House has released a statement:
      Let Them Eat Cake.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!

We only eat at McDonald’s when there are good deals on the app, i absolutely hate that my life decisions are now based on coupons .

    5. The portions, and quality went way down, whereas the prices went way up. I stopped going. That’s capitalism isn’t it? Am I I doing that correctly?

Well, it costs $12-15 dollars to go to some of these places, so eating at home while still expensive is better than going there

Hint: don’t go to places that can raise their prices with a click. Go instead to mom and pop places that have a paper menu. Every strip mall has a Chinese place, and most have a Tex-Mex place.

    8. Ah, finally they’re taking boomers’ advice to make coffee at home and stop buying avocado toast so that they can afford a $1M “starter home.” /s of course

I’m gonna be that person and say it’s ‘they’re’, not ‘their’, as in **’they’re not lovin’ it’**.

Also, fast food has gotten more pricier while the food remains low quality and some of it is just plain ass.

Sweetgreen might be the exception but even then, their operating costs make it hard for their business to actually be profitable, which explains why their salads can be quite pricey.

I’d say this decline was not only inevitable, but well-deserved too.

I mean.. for a meal I’m paying about the same amount as I would at a chain sit down restaurant, could get it faster and I’d assume better quality than at McDonalds, Burger King, etc.

I’m hoping it’s bc ppl are turning to their communities and starting home gardens

    12. I want to go to McDonald’s for a Big Mac or a qtr pounder with cheese but they’re just not worth it. The quality and even the quantity of the food is just not worth the price. Even the value menu isn’t worth it. I remember when apple pies were 2/1, there was a legit $1 menu with more than 5 items. If we simply just stop buying fast food, they’ll get the hint.

    13. For only a couple dollars more I can go to the local diner and get a real hamburger.

Why spend all that money for crap?

I eat out less anyway these days. Too damn expensive. It’s expensive enough to cook my own decent food at home.

And if anyone is wondering, this kind of thing is exactly the kinds of signs economists look for when trying to determine if we are in or heading into a recession.

We’re there folks. Tighten that belt.

The prices are absolutely insane for what you are paying for. Me and my wife can go to a local restaurant that has fresh ingredients made right there and more food for the same price or less. And the people running it actually care about the food and quality.

    15. When I was still working full-time, I would stop at McD’s once or twice a week a couple of their dollar breakfast burritos or lunch for a dollar double cheeseburger. The burrito is now $3.59 and I haven’t been back in about 4 years.

    16. YetiorNotHereICome on

A basic burger/fry meal at McD’s is double digits now and the patties are smaller and they’re getting stingier with their fry size. Fuck that.

These same companies also helped fund the current admin and I hope they close shop for good. Fuck em

    18. Chipotle didn’t used to cost $30 for two people to eat. And I remember when their burritos cost like $6-7. Yeah……you’re getting relegated to once per month.

What’s crazy to me is that when I just recently visited New Zealand, their McDonald’s has this signature burger called the Big Arch that is like twice the size of a Big Mac, tastes fucking delicious (I don’t really like McDonalds) and cost the equivalent of like $5USD.

Most importantly it TASTED better than anything American McDonalds offers. Like wtf is going on here?

    20. People are starving due to snap cuts and this is what you’re talking about? I hope all these places go out of business since they can’t provide affordable quality food.

    21. RedBeans-n-Ricely on

Fast food isn’t even cheap anymore. It’s $10-15 for a value meal and for that (or maybe a couple dollars more), I can get delicious food at a locally owned place in my neighborhood.

I only get fast food if I’m on a road trip & those aren’t very common for me.

You have to remember that the news has been telling us for years that if we want to buy a house we have to stop having avocado on toast. Will I guess they got their wish, don’t see the CROSS being very happy with Trump. Next time they will tell us we need to Eat out to help out.
