Did anyone else picture General Zaroff as a silver haired man with a handlebar mustache?

    1. I had to read a book in high school that was about people that killed vampires that hid in dark areas, and out of nowhere a romance came into the plot, for some reason I was like this book is shit, but after getting into the meat and potatoes I was like fuck I’m kind of hooked. Anyway cannot remember the name of the book and I think there was a worm or something at some point, but it was good

    2. In all years of school I only liked the “Iliad and Odyssey” but I would’ve read it even if it wasn’t school assignment.

But those depressed Russian writers were a chore to read. I don’t care that character is in love with some woman but is too insecure, drunk and depressed to talk to her. It doesn’t matter that the character is some general either if three quarters of the 150 page book are spent in the same room chatting with 3 or 4 different male friends one of which gets the woman in the end

    3. Only 2 I can remember absolutely loving was Mary Shelly Frankenstein and one summer before the semester started for a dual credit college course they had us read The Odyssey by Homer or at least a majority of it. I love mythology so Odyssey I knew was going to be something I loved anyway but Frankenstein was a lot less boring than I was expecting it to be with it basically being a father son manhunt for eachother trying to see who could kill who first

    4. Hatchet is one of those books you read ahead of the homework. Turns out it’s a whole series too.

    5. That little boy’s frown is priceless! Looks like he really didn’t want to get his picture taken that day 😝

Haha, this just reminds me of les mis, i was dreading reading it and then i read half of it when we were assigned the first chapter. Still one of my faves too. Abridged of course

    7. Hatchet is one of the few books that’s good so you don’t even mind doing homework for.

Fortunately, my 5th grade teacher read it to us after our state tests where we could do literally nothing but sleep (in uncomfortable desks), draw, or stare at the wall

Most Dangerous Game and The Cask looking at me from the school issued textbook like they were going to be bad reads, when I would always read them immediately before the rest of the class because they were actually fun.

    9. Alas, Babylon. Post apoc lit is one of my favorite genres and it all started from this one from advanced English class.
