Data for calculations came from [https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/number-of-coal-power-plants-by-country](https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/number-of-coal-power-plants-by-country) and [https://www.worldometers.info/world-population/population-by-country/](https://www.worldometers.info/world-population/population-by-country/)
The chart was made with a custom chart builder I have created.
* poland is noticeably missing from this list and they have always been *way* *way* up there in coal usage.
* number of power plants is not the correct metric, number of GW is.
honestly, this smacks more of political posturing than actual beautiful data.
They have 87 million coal plants? Damn that’s crazy
A stupid metric. You need to be looking at produced energy or production capacity.
In the energy mix their contribution is significantly humbler, producing max. 10% out of the total yield of the country.
That is really not something I would want my country to dominate in lol
I live in Australia and am unaware of any plans to build any new coal power stations. This page lists 3 as in pre construction. I think this is simply wrong.
There have been moves to accelerate and decelerate the closure of existing plants based on the availability of wind, solar and batteries.
