Running the power cable over the bonnet makes me cringe…… clearly the park is designed to be driven into forwards, why back it in?

How do you find it in the snow.

In the US people would just dig these up or find a way to destroy them for the copper.

You can see its full of leaves and debris. This is a terrible idea.

Nice idea but:
Jerks being jerks and kicking that plug
Rain makes it down there and freezes in Winter (could be heated thou)
Dare touching that thing with your RFID Card with dog sh*t over it
Salt and whatnot making it down there
The List goes on. Just make it a pole with 2 plugs on each side 1m (3ft) off the ground

May i know what car is that?

I like the minimalistic design, but I think Norway’s pole chargers would last longer with less downtime than this

Try that in Louisiana. I’d love to reach through the water to latch onto a 100 amps or more of juice! What could go wrong???

This should be standard on all streets. I’m always in need of places to charge my iPhone.

All these people pointing out “flaws” in the design and not one seems like an actual real concern for me.
This is probably a multi insulated line, seals when plugged in, GFCI equipped station. I’m sure none of you Reddit engineers are correct in thinking this good thing is bad.
Always. Always something good = actually bad with you people.

I’d rather not run the lead over my car though

Not clever engineering, according me as Swedish. Dust, mud, ice, snow, rain -will be i that outlet, about 10-40 days..Then will the fuse release….chess mate.

How they get the electric in the roads? 🤔

In Canada it’s normal in parking lots to have a way to plug in your block heater for your car. All my apartments have had it, and many places like the University parking lots and other random parking lots will have a place for you to plug in.
These are typically poles sticking up from the ground or on some sort of separator between spaces.
richkong15 on
Won’t survive in America. Thieves will steal the cable and destroy the outlet or find ways to use it

I know everyone’s worrying about the ice and the water and the snow and leaves and all that but why didn’t this person just front in rather than back in? Normally, I would back into a space (even my own garage) but this is equivalent to going into a gas station and going to the pump with your tank on the other side of where the hose is.

If that’s private, the city / county councils are really against this idea here in Ireland for some reason, and also you generally can’t reserve on street parking outside your house, if it’s in a public space, so your car charger could be blocked by another car.
They’re dead against charging arms or anything that might facilitate private charging other than in your driveway for some reason..

Would never work in the UK; there would be lime bikes covering the entire street.

The problem i see is people sucking at parking and damaging the curb. Especially if it is where the poles need to clear snow, our granite curbs are being chunked apart every winter so having power in the curbs would make it a shocking experience.

Is this a bring your own cable/charger situation?
I know Germany is a higher trust society than the US, but it always surprises me when I see curbside charging in my city. I wonder why more cables haven’t been stolen yet.

In Italy thise receptacles will be filled with filth and unusable, and nobody ever will clean them. We are the country of “done and forgot”, maintenance is not a widespread concept.

Every time I see EV tech and charging in wealthy countries outside the US it feels like the SpongeBob meme with Squidward looking out the window
I don’t understand the design! Putting in a charging pole is so much easier than integration into a curb and it makes the port so much less prone to environmental hazards. Also usability.
So, why? Seriously, WHY?!

Everyone citing bad design choices: Those chargers were successfully tested in Cologne for over a year. Technical availability was over 99%.
