My favorite fact is that even without napoleon France has Europe’s best military recordÂ

They should have rectified this immediately with another 25 battles of the Isonzo

A lot of stuff about “Italian incompetence” comes from buthurt German WW2 general, that refused to accept that maybe the German army lost not because of bad allies, but because they were simply outperformed in every way by the United Nations’ armies.
It’s one of those case that disprove the “history is writen by the victors” thing.

Really? I need to see some actual proof because Italy doesn’t have a “Sedan” or “Austerlitz” moment. Vittorio Veneto definitely doesn’t count, Austria-Hungary was disintegrating.

That may be. But they have some epic fails like getting beaten by Ethiopia

France is the prolific battle winner with a coward reputation you’re probably thinking of that

Beating other Italians doesn’t count.

What you tend to find is most long lasting powers did in fact win most of the battles and wars they have fought. It’s a bit like looking at a tournament to the death and going “did you know the winner didn’t lose any battles?” Like no shit, he’d be dead if he didn’t.

As it turns out, countries that lose a lot of wars tend to not exist anymore.

1. Most of those were colonial wars and wars Italy was in a coalition
2. Winning over 50% isn’t particularly an achievement
