That said, being patriotic is thinking about the collective. “Do well in math” to get a good job isn’t usually a patriotic exercise, it’s an individualistic endeavor to provide financial security for that person and their family. It’s a weird argument making fun of someone’s conviction to their country just because it’s not the way he’d do it.
