Unit 731 scientists when they realize that a person dies when you leave them out in unbearable cold.

Imperial Japan was worse than Nazi Germany. They just happened to pick mostly on Asians so the west wasn’t that worked up about it.

I remember them getting a little more than a slap on the wrist.
2 cities obliterated in nuclear holocaust.
complete dismantling of their military with severe restrictions.
which at this point has still only been partially rescinded.
forced to accept US military bases on their soil which are still there to this day.
and I am sure there was more.
but I do know what you mean, we didn’t take each and every officer to court over their warcrimes like we did the germans.
but I think that has a lot to do with the fact that the western peoples just didn’t give a fucking god damn about asians and no asian power existed that could enforce such.

People seem to be under the impression that Japan got off light and Germany was severely punished.
This isn’t really the case. If you look into the Nuremberg Trials, most of the trials resulted in fairly light sentencing and gave incredible benefit-of-the-doubt to people who didn’t deserve it.
Both Germany and Japan were punished pretty equivalently by the Western Allies. You simply have been taught to believe the Nuremberg Trials were something they weren’t.

Japan paid the most in reparations (about $1B to Germany’s $800m, if I recall correctly), and was occupied for the longest.
And they had the most war criminals tried and convicted. They lost less land than Germany… but that’s only if you’re including German acquisitions during the war, otherwise Japan lost the most land (but we can quibble on that by arguing when the war actually started and such).
So… like, are you comparing them to East Germany? Because that’s the only way this meme makes sense.

Some of the most notorious scientists of unit 731 got off with immunity because the Americans thought they would at least gain some kind of valuable scientific research and stop it from falling to the hands of the Soviets, only to find out essentially all of said research to be worthless because Japanese research methods were essentially nowhere close to western standards. If the US had hindsight of the Japanese researhc actually having no worth at all, they might just have let them be punished.

More Japanese war criminals were executed then Nazis. Everyone got off with a slap on the wrist.

I wouldn’t call suffering one of the deadliest, most brutal bombing campaigns in history, and not being allowed to have a military or unilaterally wage war in perpetuity, a “slap on the wrist”.
Then again, that’s speaking in terms of collectives, which is bad when talking about guilt and responsibility. On an individual level, sadly, those who sowed the wind are so rarely the ones to reap the whirlwind, or at least, not the only ones.

To be fair, they did loose their entire empire, get fire bombed the heck out of, and got nuked.
Still got away with a lot but it wasn’t exactly a slap on the wrist either.

Some of these people are not “realizing.” They were excited to do their war crimes.

“Realizing”
Japan DID get nuked, twice, so there is that.
