I thought it was a way for churches to get involved in Halloween, not to get rid of it?

Honestly, Trunk or Treat feels like a glorified parking lot meet-up. I’ll take the haunted houses and front porch vibe any day.

Covid kind of killed it but also society as a whole did too. When most of us were kids we could walk around the neighborhood on Halloween and get a big bucket of candy.
Then communities started changing the trick or treat times away from Halloween if it was on a weeknight. And then factor in that you don’t know what will happen if your kid rings the wrong person’s doorbell.
Trunk or treats are done in a public place within a known group. Kids still get a ton of free candy. Sure it’s “lazier” than tradition but if kids can play with friends and parents can mingle while eating candy in costumes in a safe environment, so be it.

Halloween (All Hallow’s Eve) is a Christian religious tradition.

Trick or treating just drops off in aging subdivisions near me. The new subdivisions where new families moved in are very busy. Just gonna take time for older people to move out or pass on and large numbers of new families to move in. Mine is starting already.

I don’t know about this but I do remember when I was a kid Halloween was on a Sunday and the churches went ballistic about how such an “evil” holiday shouldn’t be celebrated on Sunday, so they pushed all the Trick or Treating to either Friday or Saturday.

I think it’s a cost/benefit analysis done by kids and parents. They just have to go up to strangers trunks (this should probably be a red flag) in a lot vs needing to walk blocks. Parents like it since it is done on a weekend and done in an hour.

My area had tons of trick or treaters, we ran out of candy and had nonstop groups of kids coming up. And my area also has tons of trunk or treat events as well.
I think the main culprit for less trick or treaters in certain areas are parents not wanting to take the time to take their kids out. They are lazy and don’t wanna walk around in the cold at night. Or they’re busy and work long hours. So, taking them around in a parking lot is a lot easier and quicker.

Your meme should have been about changing the date, not how the candy is distributed.
My small town has kids walk up and down main street stopping at the businesses, doing a trunk or treat in the grocery store parking lot, and all of that ends at 6pm. The parents can then take the kids to the popular streets for nighttime trick or treating.
We are way too spread out for every street to get a stream of kids. My street has zero people visit it, so I have to truck or treat if I want to hand out candy.

The main problem in my town is min-maxing. A handful of upper-class dense neighborhoods with good lighting are considered the top areas to hit, so as a result people from all over town drive out of their own neighborhoods into these prime real estate zones to go there instead. So we have 4-5 neighborhoods that get completely slammed with 50-100 kids, and we have other neighborhoods that see 5-10.
Additionally, this modern trend of parents going with to trick-or-treat has been killing the event more and more every year. When I grew up in the 90s you didn’t see one damn parent unless the kid was a toddler. Now I see high schoolers with their mom walking with them. Parents don’t want to walk very far or for very long, so a lot of these kids are only out for 30 minutes to an hour tops. Growing up I was out for 3 hours and would hit countless houses and so did everyone else in my age range, but modern kids don’t have that option because society got so paranoid.

Trunk or Treat is an excuse to trick or treat twice, since it’s always in the morning or early evening before the real Trick or Treating begins.

It’s not, it’s a literal result of american car centric urban design. Little walkable streets so kids can’t walk outside anymore. You got SUVs and trucks taller than 5 feet and can’t see them. So parents resort to just meeting at a parking lot.

Modern times be weird, when you stop to think about it.
They used to teach us to explicitly NOT take candy from strangers and especially not let strangers lure you to their vehicle, because you’d get kidnapped…
Now, they encourage strangers to gather in parking lots and lure children to their cars with candy…

Call me jaded but I think Halloween is just not worth it anymore
I’m not saying that everyone should stop doing Halloween altogether (because that’s virtually impossible), but man with the direction we’ve been going in the US, methinks that there are quite a handful of people that are burnt out

Nah this isn’t from the church it’s just parents being lazy. They can get more candy by quickly walking a parking lot than spending hours walking neighborhoods getting the real experience

Honestly I think it’s the ever progressing laziness of people. People are too lazy to be bothered by giving out candy or just too much of curmudgeons. I went around trick-or-treating and the vast majority of “younger” households were having parties but still giving out candy. Almost all the well manicured houses and houses that were obviously older residents or houses that were full of clutter didn’t have candy or lights on. Regardless I live in a smallish area and now there’s a huge pile sitting in my living room floor.

Nah, trick or treating just became more and more dangerous as shit, from psychopaths putting rasors and needles in candy to the weirdos posting about threatening kids if they found out their parents weren’t on the left

Rural communities do it so people don’t have to drive 15 minutes per house or even farther.
