After some of the “I get the kindness, but poor kids live off ramen, they don’t need more” I’ll take rice a roni as a step up.

A lot of people were talking about doing this, this year, because of SNAP benefit suspension

A. Its governmental clusterfuck season. If you’re a federal employee or SNAP beneficiary, a free meal to be made in the comfort of your home is probably a massive positive surprise
B. Every other house is handing out candy. They can make up the slack
C. Try getting type 2 diabetes off of Rice-A-Roni.
Whether it was generosity or pantry cleaning, good on them. I might have to do this next year.

Check the expiration date. If it’s close or past it then yeah, they are cleaning house.

I did this too. Did more kid friendly dishes than rice a Roni we had SpongeBob easy Mac, and chef boyardee but also gave candy too. Did it cause of snap issue

Good way to clean out your pantry. Sure kids might not like it, but for struggling parents, it helps

Could also just be leaning into the “trick” half of the holiday, maybe you’ll open it to make some and “surprise” it’s full of spiders 🤷

My son got a package of chicken ramen.

My daughter got a cup of ramen noodle soup. She was dressed as Zoey from K-Pop Demon Hunters. Maybe they just thought she was dressed as a Korean character so she’d like Asian food? She freaking LOVES ramen

LOL, I remember one year one of the older couples in our neighborhood decided to sit on their front porch to welcome trick or treaters and instead of giving out candy, they gave out sample size toothpaste w/ toothbrushes, like the ones you get from the dental office. Thought it was hilarious because some of the kids just threw them away, but the couple’s hearts were in the right place

We gave the choice between candy and ramen. About 1 out of every 10 kids chose ramen.

I cleaned out my pantry. Kids were pretty happy about it.
