Why is there always this need to compare two utterly despicable and horrible regimes?
As if the crimes of one being worse than the other provides a value judgement. As if it’s somehow a competition? I don’t get it. I just don’t.
These were evil regimes, showing us just exactly how depraved humanity can be if we let dogmatic believes and dehumanisation of others rule over us to extremes. They should serve as lessons of what true horror we’re capable of. Not comparisons in a fictional and useless contest.

I believe Nanking and Nanjing are referring to the same place/event.

Unit 731 itself is already a terrible thing

“Nobody talks about Japanese war crimes.”
I see posts about Japanese war crimes at minimum once a week. I’d go so far as to say I’ve seen more people posting about how nobody talks about them more than I have any other countries war crimes. If you want a deeper cut on Japanese war crimes you could look at their actions in Manchukuo but everybody knows about Unit 731 and Nanjing.

Japan and Germany committed terrible war crimes and the Swiss were complicit and profited from the war; maybe being bad in the 1940’s is a prerequisite to making good watches.

And yet a lot of the Japanese population continue to deny it all and pretty much says “Muh Empire of Japan did nothing wrong.”

I have a cookie tin full of negatives labeled “Nanjing 1941” and I’m terrified of what may be on them. Grandpa saw some things.

Events so bad that a Nazi helped make the humanitarian zone.

Watch out. Once I answered to another post about nazi warcrimes and how unrepeatable these were or something, saying that the japanese also committed comparable crimes, not claiming that ones were worse than the others or anything, and somehow I was labeled a nazi apologist and worse.

The Japanese are a very polite people until you let them loose on a battlefield.
