Y’all are vicious when someone doesn’t think exactly the same way you do.

    1. I can’t even breathe without someone telling me I deserve to burn in hell because I said something that isn’t part of their hive mind.

This also goes beyond politics. I commented on a post where someone was asking if their dog might be a mix of a certain breed, and I said I thought it was at least partially the breed in question. I was downvoted into oblivion and told to get my eyes checked.

    3. It’s a shame you can’t have civilized discussion anymore, anywhere. It’s not really just a Reddit issue in my opinion

Reddit “upvotes” and “downvotes” mean nothing to me, people on this app are sensitive to literally anything you say when it doesn’t fit their world view

People seem to enjoy being nasty a lot more than they enjoy discussing ideas.
Then you have to factor in how many accounts are just ragefarming bots.. and yeah, its pretty awful. The hivemind always attacks any dissenting opinion to defend its views as the only acceptable opinion.

They talk like this because here everybody is anonimous. Some people on here talk to me in a way that would get them slapped irl but thats how internet era is

    7. I mean, on YouTube and Steam, and on social media platforms and forums other than Reddit, it’s almost as bad, if not worse.

The cause isn’t really the platforms probably, but that people have strong views, and sometimes, it’s justified, but it’s sometimes or often over trivial things.

    9. As soon as you mention not every single pit bull born is a ticking time bomb, some people on here lose their marbles

I wish to god Reddit would have a “political” tag that would span all of Reddit so people toggle it on or off. EVERYTHING on this godforsaken site it political. It’s exhausting

    11. The culture of pushback just for the sake of pushing back is odd here sometimes.

I posted on a podcast sub at one point and just summarized what I’d learned on a prior episode that seemed relevant to the topic. I had several people push back against the things I said as if they were things I was saying. We all listen to this podcast and respect the research that goes into it, yet as soon as the same ideas were posted on reddit those same people wanted to lash out as if the comment itself was a random poorly sourced take.

I finally had to point out that they were pushing back against ideas from the podcast, not from just me as some random redditor and they all shut right up.

    12. The internet hive mind can be absolutely brutal. Once the downvote avalanche starts, there’s no stopping it.

    13. Ok_Needleworker_6017 on

Pretty much. I just was downvoted in a job sub for sharing my experiences with different job sites after someone posted “what are some of the better job sites you’ve used?”

Some people want a refund on free world-tested advice it seems…

    14. Isn’t that just the internet though? Reddit is just a platform. A platform that uses voting as a big part of how its algorithm works.

    15. correct ≠ popular

imho the bravado of most redditors holding onto a proven false stance is absolutely comical. God forbid they say “Hay man, I think you might be right. Thanks for the insight.”

Reddit is tame compared to any other social media. Try being educated on Facebook or x. May as well shoot yourself if you think the world isnt flat.

Let’s not pretend that some takes aren’t truly idiotic and deserve some pushback on. You think steak tastes best burnt to a crisp? I’ll disagree, but you’re not a bad person. But if your opinion is that the Earth is flat, you might deserve a little ribbing.

    18. And if you reply with the same energy they did, you’re going to be the one everyone thinks is the asshole

Never cast the second stone lol

    19. Upvoting and downvoting used to mean something different. It was originally implemented to indicate whether something was a useful contribution to a conversation or not (whether or not it was agreeable or disagreeable didn’t matter). The upvote and downvote system degenerated into a big agree or no, f you button

Yeah. Yesterday some bright gem decided I was racist for not wanting to instantly forgive bigots for being bigoted.

    21. Introducing: the dislike button and how it’s overused for even the silliest of reasons.
