    1. WTF is going on in Texas? Honestly, I struggle to believe even Texas is that bad without further context of what these numbers mean and how they were collected.

A lot of this is an indicator of which states expanded Medicaid under the ACA and which states didn’t.

Those who have insurance end up covering the cost of those who do not. From this map it looks like Texas is leeching off the rest of us.

    4. The color label seems to be off on this. I zoomed in on one of the bright yellow areas in Texas near the Arizona border and 66% of the population was insured, not far less than 50% as the color is would indicate

    5. No shot that that much of Texas has more than half of people uninsured.

Edit: numbers don’t include private health insurance coverage apparently?

So living around. Most of the yellow counties are actually 80%+ insured. This map is mostly rage bait, or at the very least, a very poorly designed scale.

    7. The yellow counties in South Dakota all have damn near 100% healthcare coverage. They are reservations with IHS service. IHS has its issues, but it still exists and is providing services.

    8. How much of my taxes go to Healthcare? Almost 25% goes to Healthcare that I dont get to recieve lol.

    9. I’m just gonna point out alaska quite LITERALLY only has 6 hospitals. For the whole state essentially.

Oh and at least one of those (i think 2?) are *exclusively* native only, and when i say that i mean i get weird looks and was asked to leave while being emotionally support for a friend getting an appendectomy… their excuse was a teenage white girl was making people uncomfortable and it was either leave or be trespassed and i didn’t know enough as a teen to read how wild that was.

But even with child health insurance covered by the state i rarely saw a doc unless i physically could not do things, and most of the state seems to have that attitude.

My dad literally broke his shoulder blade on a hunting trip and they just threw a mcgyvered brace on it and called it good till they got back to town almost 2 months later

Where xrays had to be taken and it had to be rebroken and he got 2 or 4 bolts to hold the plate steady

Also i remember during covid literally all of the hospitals were in black/red level triage for years.

Health care in alaska is honestly kinda super whack

This is a lie. OP manually adds the scale and it is WRONG. The lowest % I could find at full yellow was 66% insured. 66 IS NOT 0. They should be banned.
