One thing I learned from the cartels at an early age is that you don’t fuck with them. No matter how high in power you are. Obviously never thought about the president. But I’m curious to know what the very powerful cartels will now do to the very powerful president. This will play out very interestingly. He just said he will have them dead. Honestly, I’m all for killing people bringing drugs into the country. Take a walk down Kensington ave in Philadelphia and see all the lives that have been destroyed by drugs and tell me you disagree.
That being said I am not in favor of them blowing up those fishing boats that they have been blowing up. They haven’t shown any credible evidence that those boats are carrying drugs or were going to be coming here. Also, once they are in the country they should be arrested and jailed, not killed.

Big question for me is why would he NOT go through the official channels? They exist to give validity to presidential actions and he would absolutely get congressional support in an instant. So why not go that route?
Because he doesn’t want to ask for permission. He wants to normalise dictator actions, and he’s starting with things he won’t get much resistance on, attacking drug cartels. Anyone who does protest he will justify arresting them by saying they support illegal activity of drug trafficking and they’re protecting the cartel from consequences. The argument over the legality of the war declaration will be entirely lost in the noise
And once precedent is established, how he operates, declaring war without needing to get congressional approval and without major public opposition, he will then use that precedent to declare war on other groups and send the military after American citizens he considers hostile, without requiring evidence or congressional approval.
It’s purely a dictatorship he’s trying to manufacture. It’s why Steve Bannon was on CNN declaring that Trump has plenary authority. They will run a case like him declaring war on the cartels all the way up to the Supreme Court if necessary to make plenary authority official, thus removing all remaining checks and balances before any opposition have the opportunity to take control of congress 1 year from now. He’s pre-emptively cutting congress out from restraining his dictatorship
