Majestic in scope, the flying aircraft carrier would prove to be a technological blind alley. By the time this ad was printed the U.S. Navy had already abandoned the concept after fatal accidents destroyed the two dirigibles it had entered into service (the Akron and Macon). Later, the Air Force would experiment with B-36 bombers outfitted with RF-84K fighters (Project FICON) in the mid-50s but the system proved unviable.
