Everybody knows Cristoforo Colombo but the first Portuguese admiral was a Genoese guy, Emmanuele Pessagno, then there’s Giovanni Caboto making discoveries for the English crown, Antoniotto Usodimare sailing for Portugal…

Some years ago a Portuguese traveller that writes books about it was travelling in the Trans Siberian train. There he met some people that were from central Asia that asked where he was from, when he said he was Portuguese one of them spat on the ground and started rambling about how we ended the “Silk road” or how it lost importance…
