Her: *completely oblivious to the guy walking behind her*
You: *i better overtake, so she doesn’t feel threatened*
Her: *wtf this guy behind me is catching up, why is he walking faster? Am i about to die?*
You: *there we go, saved this fine lady from getting scared*

Me I’ll sleep early tonight. Also me at 3AM just one more existential crisis.

I’ll do that sometimes, too, but then I think to myself “what if she hears the accelerating footsteps coming towards her and thinks I’m going to attack her”?

I do the opposite and slow down. Going up close will probably scare someone more. They most likely will see it as you posing a threat rather than trying to pass by.

Then they speed up and you can’t win

I’m not going to lie I’d shit bricks if I was calmly walking around and the dude behind me began speedwalking twice as fast as before just to catch up with me lol

I just kinda say “On your left/right” when trying to pass it gets attention to let me pass them.

Just…for the women here, is this in anyway appreciated or do you go “oh fuck a bloke is speeding towards me I should get away from him.”
I don’t do this consciously but I’m a very fast walker and I do wonder sometimes if I’m making anyone uncomfortable by just walking how I normally do. It’s a weird issue to talk about because like, what could actually be done to make someone more comfortable if they think they are being followed.
“Sorry love, I’m not following you I just happen to be going in the same direction as you down this narrow road in the dead of night. Whoopsie”

I simply walk the same because I know whether they’re nervous about me behind them or coming up on them or not, they’ll ultimately be fine because I don’t have bad intentions

Easy solution: yell “BEEP BEEP” while running past

Me speed-walking like I’m late for the decency Olympics 😂 Gotta keep the vibe chill for the random hoodie squad!

I do that with my crush all the time, even though I’ve already told her I have a crush on her.

And then she starts to keep looking backwards every now and then thinking that someone is following her.
