    1. So I deleted my possibly error ridden previous comment

There is a Theresa Robeson and a Teresa Robeson.

Teresa Robeson is a real human author and artist who has nothing to do with this

Theresa Robeson is a “digital creator” with a facebook page but it is hard to verify if there’s an actual human behind it all or not

    2. I don’t want to live on this planet anymore.

In all seriousness, this person should be ashamed of themselves. Look at the *font*. That’s not AI, but they chose *COMIC SANS* and whatever generic font the middle one has, and the art is poor to boot.

I can almost let the AI art thing slide (almost, but not really), but put some *effort* in when you generate it. This lazy cashgrabber didn’t even bother selecting a decent font for the cover, much less check the art generated. The kid’s eyes are staring into space, the candles cast no shadows, and the 10 is *floating above the cake*. For pity’s sake, if you’re going to give up and use AI art, CLICK “GENERATE” MORE THAN ONCE. This lazy halfwit obviously chose the first image the machine pooped out, and he *certainly* didn’t write a word of what’s in there if he’s this lazy with the *covers* of the books.

Not an author, not an artist, just lazy and greedy. Buy your kids something worthwhile and crafted with care, not this slop.

    3. VindictiveNostalgia on

Everything else mentioned aside, what’s the difference between the two versions of “Jake’s Cake” other than the color of the cover?

    4. And whenever I show a store my books, offering them 100 fucking percent of the sale (they literally get ALL of whatever they sell it for, I give it to them for free), I still get “nup, we don’t do indie authors”

      Well damn.

    5. I love that they are upselling the blue version of Jake’s Cake by $3 because it’s “signed by the author”. Since when did colouring book artists do signed editions?

(Yes, I am aware of Johanna Batsford and Millie Marotta but there is a difference between absurdly detailed line art published for (mostly adult) audiences and something created as a low-quality consumable product)

    6. Thought this said “Jake’s Cake Day” at first. Assumed that AI had pulled a story directly from Reddit.

    7. I mean, so what? If the content is appropriate for a child it’s fine. Using a computer to draw pictures or write a story isn’t some evil act.

What’s wrong with utilizing a technology (which is clearly still in its infancy) to complete a task with less effort? People also were in an uproar during the Industrial Revolution too but we didn’t go back to horse drawn carriages or something.

    8. Even if we assume, charitably, that these authors wrote every word of the text themselves… how about “support your local **illustrator**”?
