I recently saw some post talking about “Which ecchi anime would better as a hentai?” and it made me remember the common complaint some people have with ecchi, “If they’re going to be so sexual, why don’t they just become a hentai be as sexual as they want?”
Well, that’s just ruins the funny. Ecchi tries to push the envelope on what can be shown on TV. If it becomes a hentai, there no risk. Also, most times, hentai writing is bad or subpar. There are exceptions, but it’s not common because most don’t expect it.

Hentai with good sex and good character writing usually belong in NTR genre. I know a lot of people prefer Vanilla, but it’s just bland sex, no flavor, no motive.
