At the 1934 Oscars, when announcing the Best Director, Will Rogers declared “Come and get it Frank”. Unfortunately there were two Franks nominated that year and the wrong one (Capra) walked delightedly to accept before turning on his heels when he realized that Frank Lloyd had won.

Totally unintentional.
I think history shows Capra had both directed the better film that year, and was a superior director overall.
If I believed in nepostism, corruption and conspiracies, I’d say Lloyd:
>He was among the founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences,[2] and was its president from 1934 to 1935.
might have had some influence over who got the Oscar that year.
