In 1783 a boy was born with two heads. Shockingly, the second head was fully functional. The boy claimed he could hear the other brain telling him things

The second head was fully functional with no lung connection? Were the brains fused?

That is kinda sad tho. Back then, people probably thought he was a demon or something.

Scary yet interesting, still I think the poor boy went through a lot in his life

Plot twist: he was schizophrenic.

I’m guessing he didn’t live a full life like this or at least probably didn’t make it to adulthood.

Isn’t this a well debunked myth? Edward Mordrake or something along those lines? How could the other head be functional with no other bodily functions?
Edit: seems I conflated two seperate cases. The case of the bengalese boy noted above appears legitimate. Interestingly, he died of cobra bite and not the condition.

This seems suspiciously like a variation of some dumb Edward mordrake bullshit

His existence was all around sad. When he was born, [deeming](https://www.amusingplanet.com/2022/06/the-two-headed-boy-of-bengal.html) him a monstrosity, his parents tried throwing him in the fire. Rescued with some burns, his parents later used him for making money by exhibiting him. He died by a cobra bite at 4yo.
His extremely rare condition was craniopagus parasiticus. It’s a type of [conjoined](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Craniopagus_parasiticus) twin where the “parasitic twin head with an underdeveloped body is attached to the head of a developed twin.

Here’s [the most scientific account](http://surgicat.rcseng.ac.uk/Details/collect/4756), part of a collection officially called “morbid anatomy of monsters”. As a newborn, the midwife threw him into a fire but he was fished out with one eye and one ear burned off. Then his parents kept him purely to display as a freak show, kept under a cover at all times until someone paid to gawk at him. When he died from the cobra bite, he was severely emaciated from only being fed barely enough to live to be treated as a freak. The skull is in the medical museum collection because his parents sold his dead body to the highest bidder and it eventually was donated to science.

Interesting as fuck, indeed. Creepy too, when you think of the details, that the two heads would exhibit different expressions at the same time. The article describes his story, and it’s fascinating. Especially since I’m from Calcutta myself. It says that the child died when he was four years old from a cobra bite. Now I wonder how long he would have survived otherwise. Probably not for long, but the one thing I am curious about is whether the two heads would have exhibited different speech patterns? That would have been so weird for the parents!
