    Jo,
I will try once more to send you a letter but I do not
know that you will get it as times are so uncertain now Well ur make our to budge along with our exsitence not knowing what next will take place. the Southern army South, and the northern army north of us. The Regement that our neighbor boys belong to, are still at Shelbyville one of the boys passed this morning on his way South I do not understand why the army is still going south
is all for but perhaps it is all for the best. If our Generals were all such as Price, the Yankeys might be driven off Tennessee The people have been terribly excited for Some time and Some are badly alarmed. I havent been scared much yet but dont know what will became of us. Betti left here yesterday her health gets no better but she talks of starting back to Texas in two weeks. John is still puny, but able to work some. They are in a bad condition to travel. I dont know how they will ever make the trip The old folks are not very well at present but better, father has been down with his back he sold $25.00 worth of trees yesterday. he has had better luck than I expected selling this winter.

We had a little snow last week and some very cold weather but today is a pleasant day if the wind didnt blow so hard
I(?) your message to Mrs (?) She said to(?)and tell you she had not forgotten you
mother and I hav made over 90 yds of cloth since I hav been at home and would make more if we could get the thread but that is out of the question when times quiet down I think I will try for a school for there is more made at that than any thing else I can go at I must be employed at something or the blues would be sure to get the better of me. I hope times are not so squally with you as they are here.
I am somewhat touched with blues this
morning and cant wrote much. Some 4 or 5 soldiers have passed here this morning, some enquiring the way to Shelbyville. 2 just now passed, who said they were on the hunt of some niggers. they are cavalry men and seem to be very well mounted I guess they were merely taking their pleasure. The creek has been up very high twice lately. Washed the fence both times the first time Jimy put it he says he believes he will want a while. Will's family were well a week or 2 ago they talk of going to Missouri when times get quiet if you can make it convinient to come soon we will all be very glad to see you I fear this will be the last chance I will
    letter soon.
have to send you a letter soon. when this reaches you please start an answer soon as we may get it.
