Back in the 1990s Cartoon Network had an amazing show called Space Ghost Coast to Coast, and the character “Brak” still holds a special place in my immature heart

    1. Loved Brak, Cartoon Planet songs still live in my head rent free (Highway 40, Crazy Lovesick Folk, Going Down to The River).

Also absolutely loved Brak Presents the Brak Show starring Brak which was a little variety hour show that they did two episodes of before The Brak Show appeared on Adult Swim a few years later.

Andy Merrill, CM Crocker (RIP) and George Lowe are the GOATs

Edit: also go check out some of the documentaries about why and how they made these shows. They wanted to make original content because all they had was like the old Hannah-Barbera library and Looney Tunes so literally they cut and paste these variety shows together by repurposing Z-list characters everyone forgot about.

Back in the dial-up days, you could message SGC2C and they would respond in character, often Brak. Thank you for the memory. I always thought they were hilarious!

    3. 90s CN was legit the bomb, no cap! They don’t make’em like that anymore. Johnny Bravo, Dexter’s Lab, Powerpuff Girls, Ed, Edd n Eddy… miss those days, bruh

    4. I’ll still watch replays of the interviews on that show… got some pretty cool stars on there

      David Byrne (Talking Heads)

      Conan O’ Brien

      Weird Al

just off the top of the youtube search

    5. Younger redditors are gonna see this and assume the weird audio and disjointed cuts are not what the actual episode was. But they’d be wrong. This show gave no fucks and would just show space ghost silently staring and motionless at the camera for a full uninterrupted minute.

      Absolute cinema

    6. Yeah, man. I quote the Brak Show and absolutely NO ONE has any idea what I’m talking about. That was a chaotic, absurd show and I loved it. As for immature, I’m 58 damn years old and I’m still singing “I Love Beans.”

ETA: nothing pairs as nicely with the Brak Show as some vintage SeaLab 2020…

    7. We had the SGC2C CD that had this and a bunch of other songs/skits. We played the shit out of it on roadtrips

    8. The voice actor of Space Ghost died earlier this year. I was heart broken. But I rewatched the entire series right after he passed and it’s still funny af.

    9. We would play the Musical Bar B Que cd on repeat while playing Mario Kart 64 all night. Glory days.

    10. This show was just.  So.  Wild.  My favorite might have been Donny Osmond, who was surprisingly game and in on the joke.

Or the one that had SG following an ant for like 15 minutes.

    11. It was a weird twist on an old 1960s superhero cartoon, turning him into a late night talk show host with real actors as guests.

    12. Favorite line in that entire show “What are you doing here? You should be dead!”

“And you should be dumpster diving for ham scraps you six piece chicken McNobody.”

    13. As someone who grew up watching Space Stars and the OG Space Ghost cartoons, I’ve always not been a fan of what Cartoon Network did as it made a whole generation think Space Ghost was nothing but an idiot.

Even now I see stuff where people are like “What are these new comics doing serious stuff? Why isn’t it set on the talk show set?”

Then he got his own spin off called “The Brak Show”. Back in the glory days. Adult swim was a must watch for us when it came out. Sea Lab 2020, Space Ghost, Aqua Teen, plus they did the anime line up. Thats where I first saw callsics like Cowboy Bebop and Evangelion. Damn I miss back then. Everything was so much better.

Space ghost first appeared in the 60’s. I don’t know if it was recycled for the 90,s or new footage, but the few memories I have, it was bizarre back then too.

    16. Didn’t know the origin of that tune. Always thought it was some wacky 60’s track along the lines of, “they’re coming to take me away”

    17. The single best episode ever was one where Space Ghost got bit by an at an ant during an interview with Conan O’Brien and decided to follow it home. The version that can be found now is shortened but the original was almost thirty minutes long. Thirty minutes of Space Ghost crawling on the ground behind the ant through multiple environments murmuring the entire time. *The entire episode*. Near the end, he finally gets to the ant’s home where his parent is a giant ant bigger than Space Ghost. It attacks him and Space Ghost runs away yelling ‘YOU’RE SON IS A MORON’ and that was it. Absolutely effing hilarious.

I raised my kids on The Brak Show cd, They are now in their 20s and wonderfully weird in their own ways.
