Common misconception, both are named after a guy, it’s only real lynching if done by William Lynch

“Sparkling Racial Violence” sounds like a good name for a Code Geass spinoff!

There’s a town in my county called Lynch. It’s named after a coal baron. Ironically, it has the largest black population in the region percentage-wise, 25%.

Jesse Washington, 17, was accused of murdering a white woman, Lucy Fryer, although the evidence and circumstances surrounding the accusation were dubious.

Fun fact, Lynchburg Tennessee was named after Lynchburg Virginia that’s in turn named after John Lynch. He was a Quaker and a staunch abolitionist who freed all his inherited slaves.
“Lynching” is derived from “Lynch Justice” which in turn is derived from Charles Lynch Jr. A military judge who ordered vigilante justice be performed on suspected loyalists during the revolutionary war. This man just so happened to be John Lynch’s little brother.
So technically Lynchburg Tennessee and Lynching are etymologically related, however they are more etymological cousins than anything.
