My 3rd great-grandfather Joseph lived quite a life – he was exiled twice in the Russian Empire, 1st time for a plot in Georgia in 1832, and the 2nd time for favoring the Serfs during the abolition of the Serfdom in 1861. Yet somehow he managed to serve as a judge in between those exiles. His work impressed the Emperor, and he was granted a mansion in recognition of his extraordonary service.
