The mixer I use was manufactured in 1997. It is older than me and still works well.

    1. Built in 97 and still mixing like a champ this thing’s seen more birthdays than some Redditors.

    2. A lot of gadgets from the 80s and 90s were built better than the gadgets built today.

      Not surprised.

My parents had a freezer from the early 70s and survived almost 50 years.

That’s right around the cusp of when companies fully figured out planned obsolescence cycles. So you may have still found some products that weren’t designed to fail and will still continue to work indefinitely with light regular maintenance. Because why the F shouldn’t they?!?

1997 and still running like a champ—proof that older tech can outlast all the new “smart” stuff.

    5. i work in engineering….i still use my calculator, my drafting pen and my ruler from highschool (1994)

oh and my mother has her plastic bowls and plates from before i was born

    6. My microwave and my toaster are from late 80s and work perfectly, they’re not pretty but they do the job

    7. Hold on to that bugger for as long as it continues to work. No reason to buy a new one just to buy a new one if you already have one that works well.

    8. It is so depressing that the mixer is only from 1997 and you mention he is older than you…

    9. I have memories helping in the kitchen as a kid, and the smell of the mixer’s motor is a memory I’ll never forget…

    10. My reaction to realizing how old something from 1997 is

    11. I am way older than you and also function well still…well somewhat…things hurt but we do what we can

    12. My mom has a oster blender from her first apartment (1980). She’s only replace the pitcher once.

    13. We’ve had the same one, but it broke after it wasn’t used between 2005 and 2015 :/

It is amazingly simple inside though.
