I wonder what happened. Was it a parasitic wasp that got stuck trying to pupate? should have cut it out and looked!

Now, it’s very important that you don’t think about all the orange juice you’ve consumed in your life.

I typically peel my oranges and eat the slices whole… Maybe I should start cutting them.

Enjoy it while you can because oranges are going to be extinct due to a virus that chokes the citrus trees.

I bit into a strawberry once that had a dead bee inside of it. Scarred me for life, to this day I always bite strawberries very carefully.

The citric acid probably cooked it alive so it’s not raw or anything.

At least it’s a fruit where you’re likely to spot something before you eat it
TheGodEmperorOfChaos on
In some rare instances, a fruit fly larva may pupate inside the orange and emerge as a full-grown fly before the fruit is harvested or cut. If the orange remains intact and unspoiled, the fly could be trapped inside until the fruit is opened. This is more common in organic or home grown fruit, since they are less treated with pesticides.
You should discard the orange. Even if the fly is dead, its presence suggests internal contamination and possible bacterial growth.

That’s disgusting. I’m kind of grateful the rats get my oranges before this happens.

33 years later I remember everything about the time I ate half a price club muffin only to notice a live beetle in the other half. PC gave me coupons for like 200 free muffins. As if I was ever touching another of their muffins.

Do you have any other photos of it? I’m not convinced that’s a bug from the photo. I’ve seen lots of spoiled oranges that were black/blue. And MANY bugs as a professional entomologist.

This just happened to me at work like two weeks ago. I said the other half of the orange was still good but coworker forced me to throw it away lol.
