    1. Post motor vehicle accident traumatic brain injury my anxiety is through the roof which is apparently common. I always had pretty severe anxiety but this was on another level. I was lucky enough to have the support of many specialist including occupational therapists, psychologists, and others. And yes… Telling someone to relax is over simplification, but there is some truth to it.. As in learning triggers and exercising switching to a different head space when you start feeling anxiety getting out of control.

For the record I’m still an anxious mess, but I’ve been practicing what they preach and it is somewhat helping. I know I’ll never not have anxiety, but that isn’t the goal, my goal is to be more functional and have some tools to rely on when my brain freezes with anxiety. I’m only a few months in so I’m not pretending to be an expert, but I am seeing some early optimistic signs.

I compare it to being depressed (which I also struggle with in my pass) and putting on music that makes you sad or angry. It will keep you in that headspace. You have to learn what gets you out of that headspace as much as possible, “change the record you’re listening to” to oversimplify it. But we anxious people usually just hear “relax” and our defense mechanism (which are usually over sensitive due to “people not understanding our challenges and saying its all in our head) get triggered.

In the end though what I want most is to be more functional, so I am exercising what these people are preaching, and am seeing some early results. One of my biggest challenges was the feeling that I’m going in denial when I’m switching headspace… When really I’m just telling my brain not to worry about a certain thing that I can’t control, and to go do something else I do have control over.

    2. “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck” by Mark Manson really helped me felling less anxious big recommend
