I remember a vacation around Bitburg as a child. We saw one BIT CH (that also had a decal to acknowledge it) and focused the rest of the vacation of finding more. In vain. This almost seems like a vanity plate though.

That’s an old Mercedes. I can’t imagine anyone has gone to the effort of importing that, so presumably a false plate

Fun fact: This plate would get you pulled over ASAP over here! The first block, in this case BIT (which would denote the city it’s registered in), would be separated from the second by two round plaques, one showing the state and the other, way more crucial plaque, would show how long the so-called TÜV* would be valid for. If that little thing is not on the car, you’d get pulled over (and most likely arrested or otherwise in trouble for driving a car without a TÜV-certificate)
*: Technischer Überwachungsverein, TÜV for short. More or less our equivalent to what youse call the DMV, it’s the guys checking your car to see if it’s street legal, if the breaks are alright, stuff like that
