Damn at least there was no explosion. I hope they survived.

Looks like something went horribly wrong in the tail rotor.
Without the tail rotor, the helicopter would just spin uncontrollably, it counteracts the main rotors. The tail rotor blades are powered by a long driveshaft of a few seperate sections and a motor that sits inside the tip of the tail pylon, and it blew out just before the helicopter crashed.
My guess is either something wasn’t installed/torqued to the correct poundage or its possible something lodged up in there from that tree or earlier maintenance and caused a FOD (foreign object debris) related incident

What was the situation where so many people videoing a landing?

The people still recording after seeing the tail rotor fly off deserve an honorary Darwin Award.
On another note, the people on the stairway are incredibly lucky to be alive.

This is why I don’t don’t do helicopters , there’s just no chance of safe landing once it’s on its way down , lucky they were as low as they were

He was doing great until he crashed.

This must be one of the best recorded crashes, seeing video from different angles. Makes work easier for the NTSB.

I’m no expert per se but it’s actually not supposed to do that

Is this part of a film that went wrong or something? What’s with the car with the huge boom arm on top hanging around?

No explosion? Is Hollywood lying to us?
I know the answer, please be aware of sarcasm.

I feel with helicopters the same way I feel about planes. I just don’t think we are we meant to fly in a big ass metal tube in the sky. I can only hope aircraft are being built and maintained with higher quality than our new homes.

Luckily there were no fatalities but 5 ppl injured
Crazy that the tail rotor just flew off
No expert, but looks like a tail rotor problem to me. It did even come off if I recognise that correctly.
