    1. Tracing things back to “prehistoric times” was a common trope in non-fiction of the late 1940s into the 1960s. I don’t mean that anthropology became popular — I mean that “it’s been this way since the cave men” was gratuitously used to normalize how people were currently living. It shows up in books on urban development, home ec, you name it!
