Their numerous claims of supernatural encounters within the residence would form the basis of Jay Anson's best selling non-fiction book, "The Amityville Horror" of 1979.

No subsequent residents of the home have reported anything similar. James Cromarty, who resided there for 10 years beginning in 1977 was quoted as saying, "Nothing weird ever happened, except for people coming by because of the book and the movie."
