Batman (1966) was so unserious

    1. Other than the flat calm sea suddenly having a 10ft surfing wave appear I loved the fact that they both had swimming trucks on 🤣

    2. Only Batman would be prepared for a shark attack and have shark repellent available for use.

It was the 60’s man he probably was high as shit on a crazy cocktail of coke, weed , lsd and whatever else was big back then. So yeah he’s game for anything! Hahahaha

    4. Shark repellent and him running around for 2 minutes with one of those big round cartoon bombs over his head. It was somewhat indicative of the times

    5. So impressive that the actors had the skill to surf and get a good shot. The cinematography back then doesn’t get enough praise

    6. I don’t think I’d say “unserious” at all. It’s camp. Everyone involved knew it was camp (it’s not like they and the audience looks back and thinks “wow whoops! This isn’t Batman!”) and it’s a legitimate and important artistic style.

Camp isn’t supposed to present realistic aesthetics or perspectives and it isn’t to be sleek and badass. It’s playful and invites you to rethink how we consider life and its parts and players. It’s disruptive. But it’s disruptive in a fun, playful way. Some of the best popular media has had camp elements if not entire aesthetics and that includes superheroes and especially Batman. Personally I would call modern takes like Batman v Superman much less “serious” art than this.

I loved reruns of the show when I was a little kid.

One day, my dad walks in while I’m watching it and starts cracking up over the whole thing. Like it’s the funniest thing he’s ever seen. Absolutely crushed me.

I had no idea the show was essentially the definition of “camp”.

I love this gritty realism, can’t wait for the movie.

      This is a trailer, right?

Sounds like the writers took a trip to the beach and asked the kids for every surfer expression they can name 😂

This is why the Tim Burton Batman was such a sea change. Other than maybe Superfriends Batman, this Batman was the one most people grew up with unless they read the comics.

The BEST Batman movie ever, hands down. Sadly, they don’t make movies like this anymore. 😢

“Have you ever danced with the Devil in the pale moonlight?”

      “No, but check this out…”

    13. I met Adam West at a book signing in the mid 90s. Totally cool guy. I told him that “Some days you just can’t get rid of a bomb!” was my favorite movie line ever, and he Saud, “Yeah, that’s a great one, isn’t it?”

In the swirl of economic and political uncertainty, watching this makes me miss the days of carefree shenanigans such as this

My favorite was the one where Robin was falling off the side of a building and as he’s dropping at terminal velocity, Batman calmly looks down and says, “Robin, catch the Batarang in your teeth.” He tosses it, the Boy Wonder clamps down and then is slowly pulled back up. After it’s over, Robin exclaims, “Good thing I have proper dental care, Batman.”

God I loved this show. Even as a little kid, I loved Julie Newmar as Catwoman lol.

My favorite scene was when Batman went to visit the home of the great inventor, Pat Pending.
