That’s honestly both heartbreaking and inspiring at the same time-tough circumstances, but you can tell she’s determined to learn no matter what. Huge respect to her and her parents.

I love seeing how other people live. It reminds me that everyone else is just trying to get through all of this shit every day – just like me.

That food has to be 100% fire, in America a kid doing homework or on an iPad at the Chinese restaurant is like a Michelin star for good Chinese food

These sad stories are getting to comic level proportions.
He didn’t have legs but still he ran faster than others. You know what I mean?
Still sad ig.
I wish I could reach above my desk for tasty snacks

I know that it’s probably a bit cramped and that the circumstances that led to this are sad, but that actually looks super cozy

Brings back memories. I was a restaurant kid. If I wasn’t helping, I was actually hidden underneath the counter where I could do my homework, study, draw and nap. Probably why I enjoy when the house gets dark after the sun sets. My little fortress.

Okay, but why is the kid in the front? Makes the learning seem like part of the attraction.

this reminds me so much of my childhood, when I was younger I also used to work under the counter of the bar 😂 but I actually found it quite cozy because it reminded me like being in a cave

I’ve heard stories that the education departments of East Asian countries don’t want kids doing the amount of homework they’re doing. Parents are actually the ones demanding it.

This is inspiring. Everyone is born into different circumstances. Life is what you make of it.
I hope she’ll overcome the adversity and pull her family out of poverty someday. And she’ll stay humble so she’ll help others like her make the best of what they were given!

To the people posting that this is sad: why?
Parents have to work, kids have to study. Most people throughout the world don’t have a nanny. I’d do homework at my parent’s store all the time as a young Chinese kid in California. Nothing was sad about it. My parents made a good living, I had a space to study, and I saw the work my parents put into providing for us. I’m sitting here with a master’s degree and a good job now.
Where else is the kid going to go? Here the kid can be around their parents, study, and maybe grab a snack or meal. There’s nothing dystopian about this. The parents don’t work 9-5 in an office, and that’s fine. Would you rather the kid be alone in their home? Some of you need to see the real world for once.

Spent nearly 2 years in China but my Cantonese was not good. This local food joint run by a lady had great food and I used to visit them almost every second day. Her daughter was young child like pictured in the post. One day she spoke to me in English and I got to know that she is learning English. And in China you are lucky if you find a local who speaks English, I spoke to her and explained how I wanted my food prepared and she helped me every time. This post just takes me back to that time in 2013 and the struggle that people go through in life.
