I made this because my local paper keeps saying that was "14% larger than a typical" full moon in their articles, which is just incorrect 😅.

    Data on the apparent size (arminutes) is from astropixels.com. The simple bar chart was made with google sheets and text/annotations added in photoshop.

      How is this measured? What’s an arcminute? (I guess its like a degree of a circle of the sky?)

      I always heard that the moon just appears bigger to our human brain when its in the same view as trees or things that we know the size of. I feel like a measuring instrument would not be sensitive to that so…is that not true? Is it actually larger in the sky sometimes?
