Didn’t Japan basically continue oppress and exploit Indonesia, and then only at the last minute when defeat was imminent did they prepare Indonesia for independence as a last-ditch measure?

I am Dutch and my history teacher told me she was in Indonesia one’s and that some older Indonesians told her in dutch that the found the Dutch rule of Indonesia better than that it now is.
