Physical menu should be mandatory in every single restaurant

No. Never go back. I hate you alls sticky wet menus.

They are gross and too many of you don’t wash your hands after visiting the bathroom. Then those musty mitts go right in the menu.

idk, digitizing can help make small changes, like show when a dish is unavailable, or to add items to the menu.

    3. I don’t want to have to use my phone when I go out to eat. Just give me a printed menu, preferably one with some pictures of the food on it.

    4. those menus are sticky and dirty and people be wiping their ass and nutting in the bathroom and don’t wash their hands and then come back and touch the menu

Nah I’m good, I’ll scan the QR code on my own phone all day

    5. It wouldn’t be an issue but half the time the site doesn’t work, or it links to their menu that isn’t up to date which I thought was the whole point of it being digital.

Had one where it went to like their online pickup order menu. When I asked if they wanted us to order it through the app, they looked at me like I was crazy

I know the wait staff didn’t set that up but I expect whoever did to inform them what the UX is

    6. PLEASE. It makes me feel like I’m ordering take-out. Nothing worse than “oh, sure I’ll just use my phone!”

OK, but if I can *order* from the digital menu, I give it a pass. If I can *pay* from it, then it’s *even better* than a physical menu!

    8. I don’t have a problem with these really, as long as it’s easy to navigate through the digital menu, and the restaurant has good reception so the pages don’t load forever.

    9. GenX don’t care. Physical menu or QR code it. If the food is fire, what difference does it make?

Get rid of that and asking for 18% tips on takeout orders and the world can begin to heal.

    11. Haha I don’t mind it just have good wifi. I went to a restaurant with QR code menus and they didn’t have wifi.

    12. Nah, no way, give me QR codes or don’t even ask me to come in. Especially since where I’m from, the codes give menus that are updated live. Plus you can order directly instead of having to wait for some boomer trying to order as if it’s their first day on earth before the waiter can finally help another customer

My phone didn’t have a QR scanner so I had to download one to scan the QR code to open the link to look at the PDF which didn’t really load right because my phone is older.

I recognize that I have to upgrade my phone but electronic waste also makes me sad.

If I am only given a QR code as a menu, I am changing restaurants. The event goes no further.

Look, if they’re going to make us use digital menus then there is no excuse not to have full ass descriptions of what the food is and pictures of it.

    16. Comments bitching about dirty menus like… one, those should be cleaned by the restaurant, bitch to them about it. Two, you think your phone is any cleaner? Germs are everywhere.

    17. I don’t *disagree* but I’m also not that bothered by a QR. I’m going to look the menu up before I even go to the restaurant, so it doesn’t matter that much to me if there’s no physical menu once I get there.

    18. No one liked QR codes when they first came out so they had to create a whole damn pandemic to force them on us.

I’m a server and I completely agree. I go through our entire menu (takes like 30 seconds) because if I don’t someone is going to fuck up and order something they can’t eat (our spices don’t play past a certain point). Especially these days, people really need their hands held through the entire dining experience and taking away physical menus isn’t helping (because somehow people still don’t know how to use them).

Tech is getting more advanced (sort of) but people aren’t. Honestly, we’re going backwards as a whole.

    20. Visiting mainland China is a trip for this 😭 even the old folks selling dumplings out of what looks like a shack in the sticks have a qr code order process! You use Alipay or you starve lmao

I’ll compromise if they have the menu posted outside the restaurant…yalls food might not be what I’m interested in and i dont want to figure that out after being seated.

    22. It’s always in some inconspicuous place too. Went to this one place and they said I was supposed to scan the QR code that was on the door when you walk in.

    23. Wait  how many of y’all are actually running into this? Is it like an East Coast thing?

Maybe its cause I havent eaten at Applebees/Chili’s style chains in years. Last time I remember seeing a QR code menu it was at one of those during covid. Is that it?

    24. DryConclusion5260 on

Or just give people the option if they want to QR code or physical menu it’s not that hard

    25. And I want a server. I don’t want to sit at a table, order my food online, and have to pick it up myself.

    26. If it’s digital they can change the price often and you’ll never notice. And don’t have to pay to re-print them.

    27. ZealousJealousy on

I went to a place once that had QR code only and I swear to God that shit linked to a PICTURE OF THEIR MENU. Like a single page blurry-ass PDF that I had to pinch to zoom just to read it.

    28. Pull up to the McDonald’s drive thru:
“*psshst* DiD YoU GranNy FaP tada?”
      “What?”
“Are you using the app today?”
      “Oh, nah.”

Then you look at the screen and they’re only showing 5 things, and every 15 seconds the screen changes, and sometimes it’s just a picture of some fucking thing without a name. And you finally see what you want and order that.
“Okay a large number 3 with a coke, that’ll be $22.21, do you want to round up for some shit?”

    29. One thing someone pointed out to me: If the menu is digital, they can change the prices anytime without anyone noticing. They can start implementing “peak hours” pricing like rideshares. It’s not really a thing yet, but it can happen any day now

    30. I go to a restaurant to get a break from my phone. It’s all a pain when you have family with you. Saves no time.

    31. The_it_potato on

I agree w/this. My boomer complaints are that “AI artists and writers” suck and I don’t support it. Also tired of reboots and sequels that EVERY entertainment company is doing now🙄

    32. There is not a single thing physical menu’s can do better, other than to spread actual shit around the restaurant.
