The big problem with social media. Everyone gets a megaphone whether they know what they’re talking about or not. People pick and choose the megaphones they want to hear, based more on if they say what they like than on if they know what they’re talking about. Sadly there are probably plenty of people who will take this guy at his word and repeat this nonsense to others, who will then probably also repeat it, few of them ever knowing or caring that they’re wrong.

They did it with lead in paint and gasoline.
Also, the lies tobacco companies told for decades, costing millions of lives
The obvious damage done by oil companies with obfuscating research, and deliberately delaying the development of electric cars.
On, and on, and on…
People still haven’t figured out how much deception these companies are willing to engage in, and their willingness to sacrifice anything for another quarter’s profit.

I just got panel, with a 40 year guarantee.
The company that make em won’t exist before the guarantee runs out.

You don’t even need to be particularly social media savvy to identify this as fossil fuel propaganda. You really just need the most basic logical thinking skills to realize that there’d be no possible way solar panel waste could be “300x more harmful than nuke waste.” This is such an incredibly dumb statement to make that I’m just shocked how people seemingly completely lost the ability to feel shame

I’m curious to know how easy it is to recycle the cadmium and lead that is used in solar panels. During normal use, these metals do not pose any risk, but I haven’t seen any information about how they are reclaimed during the recycling process.

Also, 300x more toxic than nuclear power waste is nothing. Nuclear power is thousands of times cleaner than coal.

How about the fact that nuclear energy is orders of magnitude more efficient than coal, and is one of the safest forms of energy to maintain, despite what Chernobyl may suggest. Or the fact that we could have prevented a lot of unnecessary pollution by focusing more on public transportation. Or maybe we could look into the reason we are still using fossil fuels despite not being renewable or clean.

It’s amazing how desperate the fossil fuel industry is for no real reason. Even if we stop burning oil tomorrow we’ll need it and the compounds made from it, “The future of oil is chemicals, not fuel. “

I’ve got solar on my roof, and the salespeople are, if anything, trying to talk you out of it. “This is a good system, but it won’t add value to your house, and it won’t break even on the install cost for a good long while.”

Is anything 300x times more harmful than nuclear waste? I’m not sure dioxin even meets that bar.

Solar panel efficiency declines by roughly 0.8% per year (at least, that was the number when i purchased mine). At 15 years, you’re still looking at 88% efficiency. It would take almost 70 years for a given panel to drop to 50% of its original specs.
If there are any people out there throwing away their panels because they’ve dropped to 88% efficiency, well, they’re flushing money down the toilet. They can send them to me, I could do a *lot* with panels which still have 110 years of life in them (that’s how long it would take for a solar panel to stop producing electricity completely).
