Sexual assault in the US Army is a serious crisis.

    1. What did they expect? Likely an army that holds itself to enough of a standard to not rape each other? That doesn’t sound like a big ask.

    2. “Man on man sexual assault doesn’t exist! That’s why single sex prisons are rape free!”

What a wild conclusion to come to, they always get so close and then just fumble at the one yard line.

If they are unreported how do they have this number? “No one knows that 26,000 things happened because no one said anything.”

    5. We expect our military to conduct themselves as the respectable service members they want to be perceived as.

      JUST like our police.

There was still tons of rape back when the military was only men. But they won’t acknowledge that.

    7. Maybe they expected serving soldiers to meet non-criminal standards of professionalism?

    8. If the security of a country depends of guys who can’t resist the urge to rape, then the problem is not putting men and women together.

Jesus these comments “HoW dO tHeY kNoW iF tHeY’Re uNrePorTeD.”

Because dipshits a report requires all kinds of exact info. Anonymized polling does not. In an org where you have people with tremendous power over others people are more willing to give info if their name and the name of the perp are not attached.

      Anonymous questionnaire:

Have you or someone you know been the victim of a sexual assault?

and then some other questions like “if yes what was the nature of the assault.”

“was the perpetrator a superior of yours?”

Jesus christ this isnt rocket science people. And no Kyle just because people do not have to put their name on it does not mean it is immediately suspect. And no Kyle one person cant just fill out a bunch of questionnaires saying “yes i was raped and command did it” or whatever.

There are controls for that. It is really easy to spot duplicates or similar stories.

Also there could be sampling done that is just confidential and not anonymized. So having actual names for these stories is also possible.

Being unreported means *unreported to the authorities because you do not trust them or believe it will help.”

It does not mean “made up”.

What was expected? Oh, you know, to be the fine, upstanding citizens of the world, the ones to whom you look up to, the ones you can trust to do the right thing… and well.. they’re just men.. deeply flawed, mentally unstable men with a violence kink.. all being run with the same bullshit..

So.. they were expected to be good
..and as usual, we were disappointed

    11. Why is it such a hard concept for idiots to expect men to NOT sexually assault someone they work with? I genuinely don’t understand the caveman attitude.

    12. I would like to see the statistical comparison with civilian life. And not presume this is only male on female assaults.

    13. They expected that male soldiers would act with grown-up discipline respect for one another. But I guess that’s too much to expect from them.

    14. In the Russian army a woman medic, for example, has to decide which officer they’ll be raped by. The higher the officer the less chance of all the other men having a go.

    15. This thinking normalizes rape and sexual assault and it is disgusting. It is basically saying “hey that’s ust how men are. They rape women when they are alone with them”. Shows how disturbing these people are. I have never raped a woman. Why? Cause I am not a shitty person. The idea never even crossed my mind.

If they’re unreported, then how do they know it’s 26,000? Genuinely asking. I don’t understand.

Easy answer. “They” expected service men to act with dignity and honor. Big ask, I know, but we have to aim high.

This is a very old tweet from Trump in response to women being allowed in combat roles, like 2015-2016 old.

I am not dismissing the unreported SAPR cases or confirmed cases, but this was blown out of proportion at the time. In fact, as of FY2024, there were 8,195 confirmed cases in the entirety of the DoD, a drop of about 320-330 from last year. Mind you, unreported cases are unknown because they’re unreported. He was claiming 26,000 in the army because it was the number he pulled out of his ass.

Well for one, here in the office I work in there are both males and females. We spend more time with each other than we do our families. There are no sexual assaults occurring, maybe people learn to keep their hands to themselves and what consent means… Sexual assault is also not limited to male/female interactions. Plenty of same gender assaults happen daily.
