Here are some atrocities done by Winston Churchill in India:
-
Bengal Famine (1943) – Diverted food to British troops, causing millions of Indian deaths.
-
Rice export policy – Forced export of Indian rice while locals starved and died.
-
Refusal of famine relief – Denied aid, blaming Indians for “breeding like rabbits.”
-
Racist remarks – Called Indians “a beastly people with a beastly religion.”
-
Military grain seizure – Took Indian grain for war, worsening food shortages.
-
Blocking U.S. aid – Rejected American offer to send food relief to Bengal.
-
Economic exploitation – Enforced colonial trade policies draining India’s wealth and resources.
-
Suppression of independence – Ordered brutal crackdowns on Quit India movement protests.
-
Disrespect to Indian soldiers – Undervalued and insulted Indian troops fighting for Britain.
-
Prioritizing British war needs – Valued British war logistics over Indian civilian survival.
-
Denial of self-governance – Opposed even modest Indian autonomy during World War II.
-
Censorship of famine reports – Hid true famine scale from global and British public.

Almost as if it was total war and such harsh measures were needed to combat the Japanese; if India fell then the east would’ve went with it.
Churchill in England would be also the uncanny Mr Incredible considering the fact that he was reelected in the 60’s and he almost killed his own legacy of fighting the nazis to the end just because of being… well, himself
What makes Churchill image that great is not Churchill character itself but moreso the fact that he was the best leader for the context of a total war against Germany. Once the situation started to show clearly that Germany had no future, the British people got him out of the office.
He was the prime minister of war, but not the best prime minister for peace.
Think that’s bad you should see what he did to the Germans
He’s dark in both. Damn war monger. Begging the new world to come save the old. Well maybe if you didn’t plunge your country into war for the fun of it you wouldn’t need the new world to help
Churchill conveniently took power when there was a much worse guy, and was instrumental in kicking his ass.
Churchill was a great wartime leader
Actually governing…
I mean shit if they full sent an invasion into India the war would have been over even quicker as Japan would have been stretched even more thin, seems you have this narrative to justify british atrocities tho
Churchill isn’t a guy you choose to run a country, he’s a man you choose to save and protect it.
“If you’re going through hell, keep going”.
As an American of eastern European German descent, the one on the right is treating him very kindly. What I mean is that for a centuries there were tens of millions of ethnic Germans living in eastern europe, everywhere from Estonia to Romania to Ukraine, and his support of operation Keelhaul doomed millions of them to death at the hands of the Soviets, these were people who had never been to Nazi Germany and were labeled as enemies simply because of their ethnicity
It would be weird acting normal in the colony
During the Bengal famine Britain was going through active rationing and the frontline had to be sustained first.
While tragic a famine is an act of god not an act of Britain daring to exist. Also Churchill requested grain to be redirected from Canada to India to help relieve the famine but was rejected by the other allied forces (the US) because the shipments were essential to sustain the front.
My fucking man, Most of the other claims are just bullshit or take a single synapse to fire to realise there is much greater context.
You have a hate boner not a field of study.
Iran also had a famine in 1942 after the anglo soviet invasion.
>The allies took control over the Iranian rail network and contracted half of Iran’s publicly- and privately-owned trucks, thus occupying 75 percent of the country’s food distribution capacity in the midst of the 1941 harvest. The remaining transportation capacities were quickly rendered unusable because of a restriction of the import of spare parts. That disrupted internal trade and social services and increased the cost of living by more than 700%.After a bad harvest in 1942, famine struck the British-occupied south. The British administration promised to supply the needed amount of grain, but failed to do so, and when the Iranian government turned to the United States for help, promised aid never substantiated even after months-long negotiations
We don’t like him here either
Churchill tried repeatedly to organise grain shipments to India, but he couldn’t find enough ships for it, he asked the Americans for ships but they refused because the Japanese were in the way. Before the true scale of the famine was revealed, he was also relying on false reports submitted by the local politicians (who were elected btw).
The refusal of famine quote you use was quoted by a single civil servant who hated Churchill, no-one else ever backed him up on the claim.
The Quit India movement were undermining the war effort, they were treated as you would expect
Everything was censored in WW2 to keep morale up, whether it was in Britain or India
