Might as well add the 12% executive retention fee and dry cleaning sir charge while we at it.

    2. Pay a living wage, raise your prizes according to that, and compete with your competitors on an honest level.

    3. This has been happening for some time now, “random” charges for companies to make up for the wages THEY should already be paying to their staff.

Anytime I go to a restaurant or out to eat I look for anything like this printed on the menu. I also only pay with cash. If there’s nothing in writing on their menu or anywhere around the restaurant and they try this when I get the check I just put down what I’m owed “per menu price” x taxes. I’ll make sure to give the server their tip in cash and then go close out the receipt to the manager themselves, explaining I’m paying for food and basic service “a tip” but not paying what their multi million dollar company lacks of.

I’ve never been forced to pay more after bringing this up, yea I’ve been belittled and talked down to by company’s, pretty much saying I’m wrong, they’re gonna call the police etc. I respond with “cool, I’ll wait”

      Then they kick me out.

Then I go to yelp to warn others 🤙🏽

    4. The town I work in has very few restaurants, but two New Mexican restaurants both opened.

One charges X, but then up charges 3% for credit card transactions.

The other charges Y, but then decreases your bill by 3% if you pay in cash.

Two different ways of managing the same thing but I much prefer 2, because I know what I’m paying and don’t have extra charges.

    5. Oh, then the only tip I’d be giving is to the employee to quit because the tip I would have given them was taken by the corporation that thinks anyone but themselves should pay their customers

      This is straight propaganda.

It’s to get customers to blame “greedy employees” for price increases.

“the surcharge is not a gratuity payable directly to staff” translation – i wanted more money.

    8. Why wouldn’t you just slightly raise your menu prices. Slightly higher prices, 99% of people will either look and make some comment about things getting more expensive, then order. Seeing that 3% will cost business, no doubt about it. People lose their minds over stuff like that.

    9. Increase fee for benefits and retention. But also the money may not actually be going to the employees.

At least they’re honest that the CEO just wants a new yacht and he needs to raise prices on you to do it.

    10. Additional fees are anti consumer and should not be allowed. If you want me to be the one to pay a tax or want to earmark some of the money for a special purpose, that money should be included in the advertised price. Pulling a bait and switch with a bill is way higher than you thought it was gonna be at the last second is manipulative bullshit.

Just set your price to cover costs and make the profit you feel you need. Then I will buy at that price, or I won’t. It’s simple.

    12. I believe they have to let you know of this charge BEFORE HAND, like if it’s a restaurant, you have to be informed of this charge before you eat. Otherwise you can dispute.

Mark up your fuckn prices so you don’t have to use signs that make you sound like complete assholes.
