For those unaware the Teutonic Knights were in Europe while the Crusades were going on in the Middle East, because they were fighting a DIFFERENT Crusade against the remaining pagan religions in Europe, mostly along the Baltic sea in what is now Prussia, Northern Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and parts of Finland.
It was one of the only and last Crusade in Europe, and is virtually forgotten about in terms of its historical significance despite being the reason for Prussian integration into European history later on, and the rise of Prussia-Brandenburg that would become Germany.

“…in what is now prussia…”?
Also the Teutonic Knights followed an invitation by the Polish King who couldn’t deal with the baltic tribes on his own
Important for me to point out that the German-speaking Prussians and the baltic Prussians that were there before are distinct cultural entities, and German Prussians didn’t really view Old Prussians as their kin or ancestors. (even though they were largely ethnically the same)
